My Story
Morgan A. Skinner serves as the Social Media Lead for the Drift South Expedition, bringing a unique blend of academic insight, outdoor experience, and environmental education to the team. A Cum Laude graduate of Elon University with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Sustainability and Psychology, Morgan combines scientific knowledge with a deep understanding of human behavior and community engagement.
Morgan’s extensive thru-hiking experience—including the Appalachian Trail in 2022 and the Pacific Crest Trail in 2024—has given her firsthand insight into the culture, challenges, and environmental responsibilities of long-distance trail communities. These journeys strengthened her commitment to Leave No Trace principles and responsible outdoor recreation, key values she brings to the expedition’s outreach efforts.
Professionally, Morgan has worked as a case manager in personal injury law, an environmental studies teaching assistant, a substitute teacher, and a Crest Runner for the Pacific Crest Trail Association—roles that honed her skills in communication, mentorship, education, and public engagement. She is certified as a Wilderness First Responder and Leave No Trace educator, emphasizing safety and sustainability in all her work.
As Social Media Lead, Morgan is responsible for crafting and sharing the expedition’s story through digital platforms, fostering community connections, and educating the public on environmental issues facing the Mississippi River. Her ability to translate complex scientific concepts into relatable, compelling content helps inspire broader awareness and action.
Morgan’s passion for the outdoors, education, and conservation fuels her drive to engage diverse audiences and advocate for protecting natural resources through storytelling and outreach.
