Policy
Why Policy Matters
The Mississippi River faces growing threats—from nutrient runoff and industrial pollution to weakened environmental oversight and worsening flood risks. These challenges don’t have one-size-fits-all solutions. That’s why community-specific legislation and localized action are essential.

At Drift South Expedition, we believe that real change happens through collaboration between advocates, residents, and policymakers. By listening to local concerns and supporting grassroots advocacy, we can help shape policies that truly protect the river—and the people who depend on it.

As we travel the river, we will collect data, document stories, and build connections. After the expedition, we will synthesize our findings into accessible reports and visual tools to present during direct lobbying meetings with local representatives. With prior experience in citizen lobbying and legislative outreach, our team is prepared to communicate how targeted policy changes can directly benefit river communities and improve long-term ecological health.

As we collaborate with our partners, this page will grow to include region specific policy.
